Cologne Central Station is one of the five busiest train stations in Germany and a major rail hub. From Cologne, it is possible to reach most destinations within Germany and depart to Scandinavia, Central and Eastern Europe.

There are a number of locations near Cologne Central Station where you can park your car.

  • Bicycle Parking: on Breslauer Platz. Spaces are free of charge and reserved for bicycles.
  • Kiss & Ride zone: in Maximinenstraße, a street leading off Breslauer Platz (only to be used to drop off travellers;drop-off only, parking is prohibited here).

Inside Cologne Central Station (divided into the Breslauer Platz/Hbf and Dom/Hbf stations) you will find easy access to public transport operated by KVB and DB.

KVB is a local transit company that operates the U-bahn (underground: lines 5 - 16 -18) and bus routes. DB operates the regional commuter trains to and from the city centre (S-Bahn).

Cologne Central Station is located right in the old city centre. You don’t have far to go to see the famous Kölner Dom (Cologne Cathedral), situated right opposite the station (exit direction Bahnhofsvorplatz exit). Public transport is the best and most convenient way to explore and discover the entire city of Cologne and the surrounding area.

Across the River Rhine lies Köln Deutz Station, where the trains stop directly in front of the Koelnmesse (Cologne Exhibition Centre). It doesn't matter if you travel on a Thalys or an ICE train: your international train ticket to Cologne Central Station is valid throughout the entire Cologne area and will take you to the Köln Deutz Station too.

The station’s official address is Bahnhofsvorplatz, 50667 Cologne, Germany. The main entrance is located right opposite the Cathedral.

The opposite side of the station exits onto Breslauer Platz, 50668 Cologne, Germany.

From Cologne Central Station, take a regional commuter train to Köln Messe/Deutz Station. There are direct connections every 5 minutes. The journey only takes 2 minutes.

From Köln Messe/Deutz Station, it takes just 10 minutes to walk to the Cologne Exhibition Centre. (Directions: Take the Ottoplatz exit, then turn left into Opladener Straße. Keep following this street until you come to Deutz-Müllheimer Straße, then turn left again. Walk another 500m to your destination, the Cologne Exhibition Centre ).

For your information: It doesn't matter if you travel on a Thalys or an ICE train: your international train ticket to Cologne Central Station is valid throughout the entire Cologne area and will take you to Köln Deutz Station too.
