Discover Japan by train

From Playstation, manga and take-away sushi to Zen, shinto and the home of Buddhism. Japan is all-in-one: trendy and traditional, one with nature and like one big metropolis.
The Japan Rail Pass allows you to travel comfortably across this fascinating country – from Tokyo’s neon lights to Kyoto, the land of 2,000 temples. Visit highlights such as the ancient capital of Nara, the easternmost stop of the Silk Roads and the home of Buddhism.
And if modern Japan is too hectic for your liking, do as the locals do: fin Zen and inner peace in one of the many meticulously kept gardens, parks and sanctuaries.

The Japan Rail Pass allows unlimited travel for a minimum of 7 days in 1st class (Green) or 2nd class (Ordinary). The pass is valid on almost all trains on the nationwide network of Japan Rail Group, on Shinkansen bullet trains and on nearly all express trains.
Most Japan Rail trains have Ordinary Cars (2nd class) and Green Cars (1st class). With a Green type Japan Rail Pass you can use either class, while with an Ordinary type Japan Rail Pass you can use only Ordinary Cars. Seat reservation is strongly recommended for both class types.

  • Not available for purchase in Japan.
  • When purchasing the pass, you will receive an exchange order that has to be exchanged into an actual Japan Rail Pass after your arrival in Japan within three months of the purchase.
  • The validity date cannot be changed as soon as the pass is used on the first day of travel.
  • The Pass is issued in the name of the pass holder and is therefore non-transferable. The last travel day ends at midnight.
